Wilderness Hotel Muotka review

Strong value and excellent guides, deep in the wilderness. Glass-roof cabins are 30 m², and getting anywhere else needs transport.

Our verdict

Muotka is part of the Wilderness Hotels group, on the edge of Urho Kekkonen National Park about 14 km from Saariselkä. Its 30 m² Aurora Cabins have a heated glass roof above the bed and either a private sauna or a fireplace.

The hotel runs its own safaris, and guests praise the guides, the buffet meals at Restaurant Tuisku and the quiet. Rooms without a glass roof start well below igloo prices.

The remote setting is the catch: without a car you rely on the hotel's transfers and programme. Sister hotels in Inari and Nellim offer a similar concept by Lake Inari.
