A 20 m² igloo works for two adults but quickly feels cramped with children, luggage and winter clothing. Two-floor suites and family units with a sofa bed, a kitchen and a separate living area make a multi-night stay far easier. Check the maximum guests per unit in each resort's room table before booking.
After a flight, a 15-minute transfer is very different from a three-hour drive. Rovaniemi resorts are 3–30 minutes from the airport and close to Santa Claus Village, SantaPark and the main husky and reindeer farms, so you spend the trip doing things rather than travelling.
Reindeer sleigh rides and Santa Claus Village suit even toddlers. Husky rides work from about age four as passengers, while snowmobile driving has minimum ages and children usually ride in a sledge behind the guide. Ask whether the resort lends winter overalls and boots for children.

Rovaniemi is the easiest base for families: the airport is minutes away, Santa Claus Village is in town and most safaris pick up from your hotel. Levi and Saariselkä suit families who also want downhill skiing.
Only some resorts offer glass-roof units for five or more. SkyView's King Suite sleeps five, Glass Resort's Deluxe apartments sleep six and Northern Lights Ranch's largest cabins sleep up to six. Check the maximum guests column in each resort's room table.
December is magical for Santa Claus but the busiest and most expensive month, with only a few hours of daylight. February and March bring longer days, deep snow and better weather for activities, and are often the best balance for families.
Most resorts welcome children. Aurora Village Ivalo has a minimum guest age of 12 and Jávri Lodge is adults only. Some activities, such as driving a snowmobile, have their own minimum ages.
