Our verdict
Kakslauttanen opened the first glass igloos in Lapland and remains one of the best-known resorts in Finland. It has two villages, with small glass igloos (25 m²), larger family igloos and the 90 m² Kelo-Glass Igloos, which join a log cabin to a glass dome.
Igloos and cabins have private saunas, and most winter rates include breakfast and a three-course dinner. The remote forest location gives dark skies, and the resort organises safaris and has a seasonal Santa's Home.
Reviews are split. The setting and the experience get praise; value for money, extra charges, cramped small igloos and service fall well below the newer resorts in this ranking.
