Our verdict

Apukka lies on the shore of Lake Olkkajärvi, about 15 km from the city. Its Aurora Cabins (24–27 m²) have heated glass roofs, and the Kammi and Komsio Glass Igloo Suites (31–33 m²) add a second floor.

No unit has a private sauna or hot tub; instead there are several bookable saunas, including one with an outdoor hot tub and a lakeside sauna with an ice hole. The resort runs its own husky kennel and has three restaurants.

Guests like the quiet setting and the staff. Room rates plus paid activities add up, and without a car you depend on a limited shuttle.
